Panthers lose two on Virginia road trip

Axton, Va. – LaGrange College went 0-2 on its Virginia road trip. The Panthers lost 3-2 to Averett on Saturday and 3-1 to Guilford on Sunday.

The Panthers (1-2) got goals from Cameron Williams and Kevin Folsom in the loss to Averett. Williams scored the Panthers' lone goal against Guilford.

Williams scored unassisted in the first half to open the scoring against Averett. The Cougars (4-1) tied the game at 1-1 as Mark-Antony Liljeklev scored off a deflection.

The Panthers retook the lead seven minutes into the second half. Folsom scored with an assist from Williams off a free kick to make it 2-1.

The Cougars tied the game nine games later on Richard Bhornander's goal. Sean Meehan got the game-winner in the 80th minute, as he put in a shot from 40 yards out over goalkeeper Donnie Palmer's head.

Palmer had 11 saves in the game for the Panthers. The Cougars had a 32-7 shot advantage and a 14-5 shots on goal advantage in the game.

Guilford got goals from Greg Carnovale and Ronnie Castellanos in the first 12 minutes of the game to go up 2-0. Williams scored unassisted in the 33rd minute to get the Panthers within one, 2-1, at halftime.

Guilford added an insurance goal in the second half. Jordan Alexander's goal padded the Quakers' lead to 3-1.

Palmer finished the game with nine saves. Guilford held a 12-4 shots on goal advantage.

The Panthers play at Tennessee Temple on Saturday.
