Men's Basketball: Panthers' 2017-18 newcomers announced

LaGrange men's basketball coach Kendal Wallace announced the newcomers for the 2017-18 season. The 13-member class includes 12 freshmen and a transfer. The Panthers are coming off another successful season. LC went 18-11 during the 2016-17 season, won its third USA South Tournament title in the past four years, and advanced to the NCAA Division III National Tournament for the fourth straight time. The newcomers are:

Jalen McCallum: Jalen is a 6-8 junior forward transfer from Eastern Connecticut State University. He appeared in three games as a freshman for the Warriors. Jalen is a graduate of Danbury (Conn.) High School.

Lincoln Anderson: Lincoln is a 6-7 freshman forward. He is a hometown product of LaGrange Academy. Lincoln averaged 23 points and 12 rebounds per game for LaGrange Academy. He was an All-State and All-Region selection as a junior and again as a senior. Lincoln graduated summa cum laude with a 4.3 grade point average. He scored 920 points in his two-year career at LaGrange Academy.

Gary Bishop: Gary is 6-0 freshman guard from Dacula (Ga.) High School. He was on the varsity team for four years, earning a spot in the starting rotation as a junior. Gary was voted team captain as a senior. He averaged 10.4 points, 2.4 assists, and 3.6 rebounds per game during his senior year. Gary led Dacula to a berth in the Georgia High School Association Class 6A Sweet 16 and selected to the Gwinnett County All-Star game.

Kyle Brown: Kyle is a 6-5 freshman forward from East Paulding (Ga.) High School. He averaged 6 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 steals per game as a senior. Kyle received a number of team awards for Character (Fairness, Loyalty, and Honesty), and the Raider Award (Basketball's highest grade point average).

Julian Cameron: Julian is a 6-0 freshman guard from Woodward (Ga.) Academy. As a senior, he averaged 17.8 points, 3.8 assists, 3.9 rebounds, and 1.8 steals per game. Julian was on the Region 4-AAAA All-Region first team his senior year and was a second team selection as a junior. He earned the Silver Eagle Honor Roll as a freshman, sophomore, and senior. Julian had 791 career points at Woodward Academy.

Kameron Hickey: Kam is a 6-5 freshman forward from Etowah (Ga.) High School. He averaged 10 points and 6 rebounds per game as a senior. Kam was voted Most Improved Player by his teammates. Etowah won the Region 4-7A championship, the first in school history. The team made it to the Class 7A Sweet 16, another first for the program. Kam had the highest free throw percentage in the region.

Arthur Jones: Arthur is a 5-9 freshman guard from Cedar Shoals (Ga.) High School. He averaged 13.2 points per game his senior year. Arthur was an All-Area Honorable Mention selection and was on the Region 8-5A first team. At Cedar Shoals, he was a part of a very successful program. Cedar Shoals won two Region 8-5A titles, reached the GHSA Class 5A Final Four twice, and was the Class 5A State Runner-Up. Arthur achieved highly in academics also, earning Honor Roll honors twice.

Richard Xavier Jones: Xavier is a 6-5 freshman forward from Woodland (Ga.) High School. He averaged 9.5 points, 8.2 rebounds, 0.8 blocks, and 1.2 steals per game, while averaging 27 minutes of playing time. Xavier was the team's three-time Defensive Player of the Year and twice received the Hustle Award. He received the Academic Award three times. Xavier was a dual-sport athlete, excelling both in basketball and football. He was a Region 4-5A Honorable Mention selection as a senior.

Xavier Motley: Xavier is a 5-10 freshman guard from Meadowcreek (Ga.) High School. As a senior, he averaged 12 points per game. He earned the Defensive Player of the Year award, which was voted on by his teammates.

Jamarcus Scott: Jamarcus is a 6-4 freshman forward from Schley County (Ga.) High School. He averaged 17.6 points, 9 rebounds, and 4 assists per game. He was named to the first team on the Region 4-A All-Region team as a senior. Jamarcus was voted the team's Most Valuable Player as a senior. He was also on the Tattnall Christmas Tournament All-Tournament team.

Holt Shannon: Holt is a 6-2 freshman guard from Mount Paran Christian (Ga.) School. He averaged 15 points per game as a senior and was a second team Region 6-A All-Region selection. Holt was voted the team's Most Valuable Player as a junior and again as a senior. He finished with 600 career points. Holt was the Cobb County Tip-Off Club Player of the Month twice, and the Marietta Daily Journal gave him a Dual Athlete Academic Success Award.

Jesse Walden: Jesse is 6-10 post player from Eastside (Ga.) High School. He averaged 8 points, 13 rebounds, 6 assists, and 7 blocks per game his senior year. Jesse helped his team to two straight GHSA Class 4A state playoff appearances in 2016 and 2017. He was a U.S. Army Reserve National Scholar Athlete Award recipient, and received the Academic Team Award honor all four years.

Ronald Youngblood: Ronald is a 6-3 guard from Huffman (Al.) High School. He averaged 14.3 points, 7 rebounds, 1.1 blocks, and 1.1 assists his senior year. Ronald led his team to a deep run in the Alabama Class 7A state tournament before losing to the eventual state champions. He graduated with a 3.9 grade point average and in the top 10 percent of his class.
