Men's Basketball: Former Panther standout Nick Mitchell signs with pro team in Mexico

Former LaGrange standout Nick Mitchell has signed a contract to play for the Correcaminos UAT Victoria of the Mexican National Professional Basketball League. Mitchell's first game is scheduled for tonight. Correcaminos was the league champion in 2002 and runner-ups in 2000.

As a senior during the 2014-15 season, Mitchell was named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches' (NABC) South All-District second team. In addition, he was selected to the D3hoops.com All-South Region third team and the USA South All-Conference first team.

Mitchell led the Panthers to a second straight USA South Tournament title and NCAA Division III national tournament appearance. He was also the USA South Tournament Most Valuable Player for the second straight year.

The Buford, Ga. native led the Panthers and was third in the USA South in scoring, averaging 16.6 points per game. He was also the team leader in rebounds, averaging 6.1 per game, which ranks 10th in the conference. Mitchell was second on the team and fourth in the conference with 54 steals.

Mitchell became the 26th Panther to go over 1,000 points for his career and is 15th on the school career points list with 1,204. He has career totals of 471 rebounds, 162 assists, and 148 steals, which is fifth on the school career list. In addition, Mitchell is seventh on the school career list with 485 free throws attempted and sixth with 331 free throws made.
