Men's Basketball: Panthers stop Concordia-Selma 73-65

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - LaGrange College improved to 2-1 with a 73-65 win over Concordia-Selma on Saturday in the Huntingdon College Classic. The NAIA Hornets fell to 2-4.

Joey Anderkavich led the Panthers with a game-high 20 points. Anderkavich was 9-for-13 from the floor in the game. Catrell Maclin scored 13 points off the bench and Blake Craft added 11.

The Panthers shot 53.8 percent in the game; 61.5 percent in the first half. The Panthers were 12-of-16 from the free throw line and had a 31-29 rebounding edge.

The Panthers never trailed in the game. They jumped out to a 17-7 lead in the first eight minutes. The Hornets tied the game at 23, but the Panthers went on a 12-2 run to end the first half with a 35-25 lead.

Craft opened the second half with a pair of 3-pointers to push the Panthers' lead to 16, 41-25. It was the largest lead of the game for the Panthers.

Concordia rallied with a 21-5 run over a eight-minute span to tie the game at 46. Denzel Robinson put the Panthers ahead to stay, 50-48, with two free throws.

The Panthers began to pull away in the last five minutes. A 14-4 run put the Panthers up 67-54. Maclin hit back-to-back 3s to start the run. The Hornets got as close as six points in the final minute, but Craft hit a layup, then made 1-of-2 free throws for a 72-63 lead.

The Panthers play at Birmingham-Southern on Tuesday and the Maryville College Thanksgiving Classic on Friday and Saturday.
