Panthers fall to Emory and Oglethorpe at Thanksgiving Classic

LaGrange College dropped to 0-6 on the season after losing to Emory and Oglethorpe at the GABCA Thanksgiving Classic in Atlanta at Emory's Woodruff PE Center.

The Panthers lost 81-67 to host Emory on Saturday and 77-47 to Oglethorpe on Sunday. It was the second loss of the season to Oglethorpe. The Stormy Petrels won the first meeting 67-50 on Nov. 15 in the season opener.

Nic Whitfield and Stephen Spivey each had 14 points against Emory, while Marcus Vaughn added 13. Spivey was a perfect 6-for-6 from the floor in the game.

The Panthers trailed 43-34 at halftime after trailing by as many as 14 in the half. The Panthers got as close as three points in the second half before the Eagles (4-0) pulled away.

In the loss to Oglethorpe, Jerod Howard led the Panthers with 10 points. Howard was 7-for-7 at the free throw line.

The Stormy Petrels (3-2) led 42-21 at halftime. They continued to build on their lead in the second half.  The Panthers shot only 27.8 percent for the game.

The Panthers host Covenant on Wednesday at 8 p.m.
