Webster edges Panthers 68-67 with late basket

Nic Whitfield had the Panthers' first double-double of the season. He had a game-high and career-high 27 points, while pulling down a game-high 11 rebounds. Blake Craft scored all 12 of his points in the final four minutes of the game. Joe Cromwell also had 12 points.

Webster led at halftime 31-22. The Panthers shot only 25.8 percent from the floor in the first half. The Gorlocks (1-2) held on to the lead until late in the game.

The Panthers trailed 59-54 with 3:48 left in the game. Craft put the Panthers in the lead with 3-pointers on three straight trips down the court. The final trey put the Panthers up 63-59 with 2:18 left.

Craft hit a pair of free throws to make it 65-59. Webster cut it to 66-65 after a jumper by Moore. Craft hit one of two free throws to put the Panthers up 67-65. Moore then hit his game-winning trey for the 68-67 final.

After the poor shooting in the first half, the Panthers shot over 48 percent in the second half. The Panthers made 21-of-25 free throws in the game. They also forced 17  Webster turnovers, while turning the ball over themselves only 11 times.

The Panthers play at the University of the South in Sewanee, Tenn. on Tuesday. Game time is 8 p.m.
