GREENSBORO, N.C. - The LaGrange golf team opened its fall schedule at the Tournament Town Championship Preview. The tournament was played at the Grandover Resort, site of the 2018 NCAA Division III National Championship.
The Panthers had a three-round total of 943 in the tournament, finishing 18th. LC was playing with an all new lineup after graduating four seniors off last year's team. Freshman Ben Womack led LC with a 229 tournament total. Womack had a final round 72 that included and eagle 3 on the par 5 18th hole. Sam Hershoff and Rob Simpson followed Womack with 238 totals. Simpson led the team with a first round 76. Rounding out the scoring was Cameron Starr (244) and Nathan Garner (245).
"We have the youngest starting lineup with three freshmen in Division III," said Coach Lee Richter. "They will continue to improve as the season goes on and we have the ability to be a very good team in the years to come. This was a tough course to start your collegiate career on."
The Panthers will play in the Royal Lakes/Oglethorpe Fall Invitational on Oct. 7-8. The tournament will be held at the Royal Lakes Golf Course in Gainesville, Georgia.
