Golf: Panthers tie for second at Royal Lakes/Oglethorpe Invitational; Lanier third in individual standings

GAINESVILLE, Ga. - The seventh-ranked LaGrange golf team tied for second at the Royal Lakes/Oglethorpe Fall Invitational on Tuesday. The Panthers shot a final round 296 for a 589 total, tying with Transylvania.

Junior Logan Lanier paced the Panthers with an even par 72 over the Royal Lakes Golf and Country Club course. Lanier finished third in the individual standings with a 140 total, two shots out of first. He posted his best 36-hole total by three shots.

Junior Osborn Theam and senior Alex Ball had final round 74s. Theam tied for 11th with a 146 total. Ball led the team Tuesday with five birdies in his round as finished with a 149 total.

Junior Anthony Scolapio and sophomore Jake Nelson both shot 76. Scolapio improved from his first round by six shots. Nelson was 6-over par after four holes Tuesday, but rallied to shoot 2-under over his final 14 holes.

The Panthers were first among the six USA South schools in the tournament. Huntingdon (594), Piedmont (606), Maryville (614), Greensboro (614), and Ferrum (617) followed the Panthers.

The Panthers travel to Destin, Fla. for the Golfweek Invitational at the Raven Course. The 54-hole tournament begins Sunday and runs through Tuesday.
