Golf: Panthers ninth after two rounds at the Gordin Classic

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The LaGrange golf team is ninth after the first day of the Gordin Classic at the Columbus Country Club. The 12-team field played two rounds Monday and will finish with 18 holes Tuesday.

The Panthers had rounds of 298 and 295 for a 593 total over the par 72 course. They are just seven shots back of sixth place Oglethorpe. Berry leads the tournament by one shot over Wittenberg.

"I was pleased with the way we played for our first time out," Coach Lee Richter said. "Most of these teams have already played a tournament or two."

Junior Logan Lanier led the Panthers with rounds of 73 and 71 for an even par total of 144. Sophomore Jake Nelson and junior Osborn Theam were tied at 149, five shots back of Lanier. Alex Ball was at 151 and Eric Havixbeck at 170. Ball tied his collegiate career low round with a 73 in the second round.

"With only one senior (Alex Ball) we're one of the youngest teams in the tournament," said Richter. "I was really pleased with the play of Jake Nelson."
