Golf: Panthers rise to No. 2 ranking in Division III coaches poll; receive two first place votes

The LaGrange golf team has risen to the No. 2 ranking in the Bushnell Golfweek Division III Coaches Poll released April 3. It is the highest ranking ever for the Panthers in the coaches poll, who also received two first place votes.

The Panthers rose five spots from No. 7 in the previous poll on the strength of what has been an outstanding spring season. The Panthers have won three of their four tournaments, including the latest at the Wynlakes Intercollegiate. They also won the Callaway Gardens Intercollegiate, and the Jekyll Island Intercollegiate, while finishing second at the Bermuda Invitational.

Oglethorpe is ranked first, followed by the Panthers, then Methodist, Illinois Wesleyan and Redlands to round out the top five. Former No. 1 Texas-Tyler dropped seven spots to eighth.

The Panthers play in the Emory Spring Inviational on April 6-7 at the Barnesly Gardens Resort in Adairsville, Ga. They defend their USA South conference title April 17-19 at the Benvenue Country Club in Rocky Mount, N.C.

The NCAA Division III Championship Tournament is May 12-15 at the Grandover Resort in Greensboro, N.C.
