Golf: Panthers tied for first after first round of Wynlakes Invitational

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The third-ranked LaGrange golf team is tied for first after the first round of the Wynlakes Intercollegiate Invitational.

The Panthers shot a team score of 293 over the Wynlakes Golf and Country Club course. They are tied with Guilford and two ahead of third place Rhodes.

Guilford ended the day four shots ahead of the Panthers but had a player disqualified for an illegal drop.

Senior Cory Howard led the Panthers with a 1-under par 71 and is tied for second in the individual standings. Howard was one of three Panthers in the top 10.

Sophomore Anthony Scolapio was two shots back of Howard with a 1-over 73 and is tied for seventh. Fellow sophomore Osborn Theam tied for 10th after a round of 74.

Freshman Ryan Najim finished with a 75 and is tied for 12. Sophomore Cory Lanier had a round of 76 and is tied for 18th.

The two-day tournament concludes Tuesday. The Panthers will be going for their third tournament title this spring.
