Golf: Panthers start fall season with fifth place finish at Tournament Town Championship Preview

GREENSBORO, N.C. - The LaGrange golf team finished its first fall tournament with a fifth place finish at the Tournament Town Championship Preview. The tournament was played at the Grandover Resort, site of the 2015 NCAA Division III national championship.

The No. 8 Panthers posted a final round 304 for a three-day total of 893. Top-ranked Oglethorpe won the 18-team tournament, which featured 13 teams ranked in the Golfstat Division III top 25.

Sophomore Osborn Theam led the team with a third place finish. Theam had a two-under par total of 214, after a final round 75. He tied for third in the tournament with 11 birdies.

Senior Cory Howard also had a final round of 75. Howard tied for 18th with a 223 total. Sophomore Logan Lanier followed Howard at 225 after a finishing round of 78.

Freshman Eric Havixbeck shot 76 in the third round for a 231 total. Anthony Scolapio rounded out the scoring for the Panthers with a 236 total, shooting 78 on his final round.

The Panthers will travel to Columbus, Ohio for the Gordin Classic. The tournament will be held Sept. 29-30 at the Columbus Country Club.
