Golf: Wolford's career day leads Panthers to fourth place finish at Emory Invitational

ATLANTA, Ga. - The LaGrange golf team finished fourth at the Emory Invitational on Tuesday at the Druid Hills Golf Club.. The tournament was cut short to just one round after rain washed out Monday's first round.

The Panthers had a team score of 296, five shots back of Methodist. The Panthers were just one shot back of Guilford and Oglethorpe, who tied for second with team scores of 295.

Senior Freddie Wolford had a career-low round of of two-under par 70 to lead the Panthers and earn a spot on the all-tournament team. Wolford tied for third in the individual standings. He had three birdies and just one bogey during his round.

Cory Howard followed Wolford with a two-over par score of 74. Howard played the final 12 holes one-under par after a double bogey and bogey on the first six holes.

Osborn Theam was a stroke back of Howard with a 75. Rounding out the scoring for the Panthers was Logan Lanier with a 77 and Anthony Scolapio with a 79.

The Panthers place four golfers on the Georgia Cup All-State team: Howard, Theam, Lanier and Scolapio.

The Panthers play in the USA South Tournament at the Benevenue Country Club in Rocky Mount, N.C. beginning Friday. The tournament runs through Sunday as the Panthers are seeded second behind defending champion Methodist.
