Golf: Panthers place sixth at Jekyll Island Collegiate Invitational

JEKYLL ISLAND, Ga. - The LaGrange golf team came in sixth in the Jekyll Island Collegiate Invitational that ended Sunday. It was the Panthers' best finish in the tournament, which featured seven of the top 10 teams in the Golfstat.com Division III rankings.

The Panthers shot a final round team score of 299 for a three-day total of 888. Illinois Wesleyan won the tournament by 10 shots over Methodist, followed by St. John Fisher, Oglethorpe, LaVerne and the Panthers. The Panthers finished three strokes ahead of second-ranked Claremont-Mudd-Scripps.

Freshman Osborne Theam was the top finisher for the Panthers. Theam tied for 12th in the individual standings after a third roun two-over par 74 for a 219 total.

Cory Howard had the Panthers' low round Sunday with a one-under par 71. Howard tied for 22nd with a 222 total.

Logan Lanier came in with a 76 and a 225 total. One shot back of Lanier was Anthony Scolapio with 226 after a final round 80. Freddie Wolford shot 78 Sunday and finished the tournament at 229.

The Panthers will play in the Wynlakes Intercollegiate Invitational on March 24-25 in Montgomery, Ala.
