Golf: Panthers have solid finish at Tournament Town Championship Preview

GREENSBORO, N.C. - The LaGrange golf team had a solid eighth place finish at the Tournament Town Championship Preview that concluded Monday. The tournament was held on the Grandover Resort and Conference Center course, site of the 2014 NCAA Division III Golf Championships.

The 18-team tournament featured 14 teams ranked in top 25 of the Golf World/Nike Golf Division III preseason college coaches' poll, including seven of the top 10. The Panthers are ranked 17th in the poll.

The Panthers had a two-day total of 606, only five shots back of fourth place Transylvania. Sixth-ranked Illinois Wesleyan won the tournament with a 590 total. The Panthers finished ahead of four top-10 schools, including second-ranked Oglethorpe.

Freshman Osborn Theam shot a team low round of even par 72 to finish in a tie for fifth with a 147 total. Theam started the day tied for 19th after a first round 75.

Another freshman, Logan Lanier, followed Theam with a 74 on Monday after a first round 79. He moved up 22 spots in the standings with the round.

Rounding out the scoring for the Panthers was: Anthony Scolapio (154), Freddie Wolford (155) and Cory Howard (156).

The Panthers play in the Oglethorpe Fall Invitational on Oct. 7-8 at the Royal Lakes Golf Club in Gainesville, Ga.
