Golf: Panthers have strong finish at Jekyll Island Collegiate Invitational

JEKYLL ISLAND, Ga. - The LaGrange golf team finished strong at the Jekyll Island Collegiate Invitational on Sunday. The Panthers tied for 12th in the final standings for the three-day, 30-team tournament.

The tournament featured 11 of the top 25 teams, including the 16th-ranked Panthers, in the Golfstat Division III rankings. Ninth-ranked Illinois Wesleyan won the tournament with No. 3 Methodist and top-ranked Oglethorpe finishing second and third.

Sophomore Cory Howard tied for ninth in the individual standings to earn a spot on the All-Tournament team. Howard had rounds of 73, 77 and 72 for a 222 tournament total over the par 72 Pine Lakes Golf Club course. He was one shot off of tying for the low round on Sunday.

David Hensley (233), James Liang (236), Alex Ball (238) and Freddie Wolford (243) rounded out the Panthers' scoring. Liang had the Panthers' low round of the tournament with a first round one-under par 71.

The Panthers will play in the Emory Spring Invitational on April 1-2 at the Druid Hills Golf Course in Atlanta.
