Golf: Panthers finish tied for fourth at Pine Needles Intercollegiate

SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. - LaGrange's golf team tied for fourth at the Pine Needles Intercollegiate tournament. The tournament was cut to one round after Tuesday's final round was rained out.

The Panthers had a 312 total for their first round Monday to tie with Hampden-Sydney. They have finished in the top 10 in all five tournaments during the 2012-13 season. Guilford won the abbreviated tournament with a 291 total.

Sophomore Cory Howard led the Panthers. He tied for sixth after shooting a two-over par round of 73. For Howard, it was his fifth top 10 finish in as many tournaments during the fall and spring.

Freddie Wolford followed Howard with a 79. Jake Andrews and James Liang each had rounds of 80, while David Hensley shot an 82.

The Panthers play in the Callaway Gardens Intercollegiate on Saturday and Sunday at the Mountain View course in Pine Mountain, Ga.
