Golf: Panthers hold first round lead at GSAC tournament

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The LaGrange golf team leads the Great South Athletic Conference Championship Tournament after the first round Tuesday. The Panthers shot a team score of 301 over the Wynlakes Golf and Country Club course on a chilly and windy day.

The 13thPanthers lead tournament host Huntingdon by 12 shots. Defending champion Maryville is two shots behind Huntingdon, followed by Covenant (321) and Piedmont (341).

Brothers Hudson and Hunter Keener are 1-2 in the individual standings. Hudson Keener was the only golfer not over par on the day with a 72. Hunter Keener finished three shots back with a 75.

Cory Howard is tied for third after shooting a four-over par 76. Freddie Wolford had a 78 and David Hensley had an 83 to round out the scoring for the Panthers.

The Panthers begin teeing off for the final round at 8:45 CST on Tuesday.
