Golf: Hudson Keener wins third individual title at Emory Invitational
ATLANTA, Ga. - Hudson Keener won his third tournament of the spring as the LaGrange golf team finished fifth at the Emory Invitational on Tuesday. It was the Panthers' fourth top five finish of the season.
The Panthers finished with a team score of 593 for the two-day tournament. Methodist, ranked second in Division III, won the tournament by seven shots over Oglethorpe and Transylvania. Greensboro finished fourth, two shots ahead of the Panthers.
The Panthers finished six shots ahead of top-ranked Guilford, who tied for seventh with Centre. The tournament field had 10 of the top 20 teams in Division III.
Keener had his second straight round of four-under par 68 to defeat Justin Tereshko of Transylvania by two strokes. Keener was tied with Tereshko with three holes left. He birdied the 16th hole to take the lead, then saved par with a 12-foot putt on 17 to keep the lead. Keener birdied the 18th hole to close out his win.
Freddie Wolford had a second round 75 to finish with a 151 total, tying for 32nd in the tournament. Cory Howard bounced back from a first round 80 with a round of 74 to finish at 154. David Hensley had a final round 80 and a 155 total. Hunter Keener had an 81 for a 158 total.
The Panthers play in the GSAC Championship Tournament on April 23-24 in Montgomery, Ala. They finished second last year to Maryville by one shot. Hudson Keener is the reigning GSAC Player of the Year and won the conference individual championship.
