Golf: Panthers tied for third after first round of Emory Invitational

ATLANTA, Ga. - The LaGrange golf team is tied for third after the first round of the Emory Invitational being held at the Druid Hills Golf Club. The Panthers had a team total of 296, their second lowest score in a round this spring.

The 13th-ranked Panthers are tied with Transylvania, four shots behind first round leader Oglethorpe and one shot back of tournament host Emory. The Panthers finished the round two shots ahead of second-ranked Methodist and seven up on top-ranked Guilford. Including the Panthers, there are 10 of the top 20 teams in the nation in the tournament.

Senior Hudson Keener shot a four-under par 68 to lead the individual standings. He has a two-shot lead over Transylvania's Justin Tereshko. Keener, starting on the back nine, was even par through nine holes. He had four birdies and no bogeys over the last nine holes.

Three Panthers finished the round within two shots of each other. David Hensley finished with a three-over 75, his lowest round of the spring. Right behind Hensley was Freddie Wolford at 76 and Hunter Keener at 77. Wolford tied his low round of the spring. Cory Howard rounded out the Panthers' scoring with an 80.

The tournament ends Tuesday. It is the final tournament before the Great South Athletic Conference event April 23-24.
