ROME, Ga. - Senior Hudson Keener won the individual title as LaGrange finished in a tie for fifth place with Shorter at the Rome News-Tribune Invitational on Tuesday. It was the second straight top five finish for the Panthers this spring.
LaGrange had a team total of 306 on Tuesday and a tournament total of 600. The Panthers were one of only five NCAA Division III schools in the 20-team field, won by the University of the Cumberlands by three shots over Central Alabama. Tournament host Berry finished third, three strokes ahead of the Panthers.
Keener followed his first round 66 with a one-over par 73 for a two-day total of 139. The title was his third in the past two years, winning the Reeder Cup and the Great South Athletic Conference championships last season. Keener finished three strokes ahead of Shorter's Patrick Sundlof. Sundlof shot the low round of the day Tuesday, a three-under par 69.
Cory Howard finished the tournament tied for 21st after a final round 77 and a total of 150. Freddie Wolford was the only Panther to have a better round Tuesday, finishing with a 76 after a first round 80. Hunter Keener (159) and David Hensley (161) rounded out the scoring for the Panthers.
The Panthers play at the Jekyll Island Collegiate Invitational next. The three-day tournament begins March 16.
