Golf: Panthers tied for third at Rome News-Tribune Invitational

ROME, Ga. - Led by senior Hudson Keener, LaGrange is tied for third after the first round of the Rome News-Tribune Invitational at the Stonebridge Golf and Country Club.

The Panthers had a team total score of 294, tying them with Oklahoma Baptist. Central Alabama is the first round leader with a team score of 289, three shots ahead of the University of the Cumberlands. The Panthers are three shots ahead of tournament host Berry.

Keener tied his career-best with a 6-under par 66 to lead the individual standings by four shots over Central Alabama's Baxter Reeves. Keener was even par through nine holes before shooting 6-under on the back nine.

Freshman Cory Howard shot a 1-over par 73 and is tied for 11th in the individual standings. David Hensley followed with a 76, Hunter Keener with a 79 and Freddie Wolford with an 80.

The two-day tournament concludes Tuesday.
