SANDESTIN, Fla. - The LaGrange College golf team had an impressive showing at the Golfweek Fall Invitational which finished Tuesday. The Panthers finished sixth in the team standings and senior Hudson Keener was second in the individual standings.
The Panthers had a three-day total of 902 over the The Raven Golf Club course, just one shot back of fifth place Rhodes. The 18-team field featured nine of the top 15 teams in Golfstat's NCAA Division III rankings.
Seventh-ranked Guilford won the tournament, nine shots ahead of top-ranked Texas Tyler and fifth-ranked Illinois Wesleyan. The Panthers beat second-ranked Methodist (906), eighth-ranked Christopher Newport (906), fourth-ranked Skidmore (910) and defending national champion Greensboro (914).
"This is the best tournament we play in with the number of ranked teams and I'm very thrilled with the way we played," head coach Lee Richter said. "We played with two freshmen and all the guys played well. It was a total team effort."
Senior Hudson Keener finished three shots back of Guilford's Noah Ratner in the individual standings. Keener had a tournament total of six-under par 207 with rounds of 68-71-68.
Freshman Cory Howard recovered from a first round 79 with back-to-back rounds of 73. He finished with a total of 225, tied for 22nd in the individual standings.
Taylor Wynn followed Howard with a tournament total of 234. He had a low round of 76 on Tuesday. Freddie Wolford (241) bounced back from a second round 85 with a final round 73. Freshman Landon Petzel rounded out the scoring for the Panthers with a total of 251.
The Panthers play in the Oglethorpe Invitational on Oct. 17-18.
