ROME, Ga. - The LaGrange College golf team opened its fall schedule at the Chick-fil-A Collegiate Invitational hosted by Berry College at the Coosa Country Club. The Panthers finished ninth in the 18-team field.
Lee University won the tournament with a two-day total of 572. The Flames' Matt Emery won the individual title with an eight-under par total of 136. Union College was second at 593; followed by Trevecca Nazarene at 594.
The Panthers were the top finishing team of the five NCAA Division III schools; four were Great South Athletic Conference members. The Panthers had back-to-back rounds of 304 to finish at 608. The other Division III schools were: Piedmont (12th, 620), Berry (13th, 621), Covenant (18th, 642) and Maryville (19th, 662).
Senior Hudson Keener was the top finisher for the Panthers. Keener had rounds of 76 and 71 for a total of 147. He finished tied for eighth in the individual standings. Keener, a two-time All-American and the GSAC Player of the Year, has finished in the top 10 in five of his last seven tournaments.
Sophomore Taylor Wynn led the Panthers in the first round with an even par 72. He shot a final round 77 to finish at 149 and tied for 20th in the individual standings.
The Panthers play at the Golfweek Fall Invitational on Oct. 9-11. The tournament will be held at the The Raven Golf and Beach Resort in Sandestin, Fla.
