Golf: Panthers third after first round of Rome News-Tribune Invitational

ROME, Ga. - LaGrange finished Monday's first round of the Rome News-Tribune Invitational in third place. The Panthers shot a team score of 292 over the par 72 Stonebridge Country Club course.

The Panthers, tournament host Berry and Covenant are the only three NCAA Division III teams in the 15-team field. Lee leads the University of the Cumberlands by five shots, followed by the Panthers. Shorter is fourth, while Berry is tied with Reinhardt for fifth.

The Keener brothers led the Panthers in the first round scoring. Hunter Keener is tied for third in the individual standings after a two-under par 70. Hudson Keener is one shot back in a tie for sixth after a one-under round of 71.

Taylor Wynn followed the Keeners with a two-over par 74. Freddie Wolford had a 77 and Brian Moore an 80 to round out the scoring for the Panthers.

Weather permitting, the tournament concludes Tuesday.
