With Hudson Keener shooting a 74 to make the all-tournament team, the LaGrange College golf team finished eighth at the Oglethorpe Invitational at Royal Lakes Golf Club in Gainesville on Tuesday.
Although the Panthers fell back from the fourth-place position they held after Day 1, it was still a successful tournament considering the strength of the field.
"The guys fought hard, and we had a solid tournament," head coach Lee Richter said.
The field was composed mostly of teams that are ranked in NCAA Division III and will likely be in the national tournament next spring.
"We beat some pretty good teams," Richter said. "We would liked to have finished higher, we just dropped off a little bit today. If you do that against this caliber of field, they'll blow by you."
Keener, who was tied for the lead after the first round, finished tied for fifth at even-par, two shots off the winning pace.
Hunter Keener, who had a 72 in the first round, closed with a 78 to finish tied for 27th. Freshman Taylor Wynn followed up his first-round 75 with a 77 to finish 37th. Another freshman, Freddie Wolford, posted scores of 79 both days, and Adam Garrett had rounds of 78 and 80.
Huntingdon won the team championship, while defending national champion Methodist was second.
The Panthers will play in the Guilford Invitational in Greensboro, N.C. next week.
