Football: Players of the Week for Ave Maria game announced

Head football coach Todd Mooney announced the the varsity Players of the Week for the Ave Maria game. Junior running back Kent Gibson and fellow junior defensive back Anthony Cochran were selected as the Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week for the second straight week and third time this season.

Gibson ran for a career-high 154 yards on just 11 carries and three touchdowns in the 43-7 win over the Gyrenes. Gibson's 14.0 yard per carry average set a school single-game record. He finished the season second on the team in rushing with 626 yards and led the team in scoring with seven touchdowns.

Cochran had a team-high 11 tackles against Ave Maria that included two for losses. He also had a pass breakup in the secondary. Cochran finished the season second on the team in tackles with 73. He led the team with five pass breakups and tied for the team lead with two interceptions.

Freshman linebacker Thaddeus Greenaway is the Special Teams Player of the Week. Greenaway blocked his second punt of the season, setting up the Panthers' first touchdown. On defense, he had a quarterback sack and recorded a safety for the Panthers' final points.

Freshmen Wes Fujihira and Martin Lawson are the Scout Team Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week.
