Baseball: Panthers beat Belhaven 12-5 to stop two-game skid

JACKSON, Miss. - LaGrange stopped a two-game losing streak with a 12-5 win against Belhaven on Saturday in Smith-Willis Stadium. The Panthers (6-4) had only seven hits but took advantage of eight walks issued by Blazer pitching in evening their Millsaps College Tournament record at 1-1. 

Colin Barrett pitched into the sixth inning to run his record to 3-1. Barrett scattered nine hits in giving up five runs, four earned. Anthony Elias threw two scoreless innings and Zach English finished the final 1-2/3 innings. Rhett Hollon had two hits, scored two runs, and drove in another three runs. Austin Jones and Rhett Mixon also had three RBIs each. James Poropatic had two hits and scored three times.

Belhaven (1-4) took a 1-0 lead after an inning. Hollon's two-run single was the only hit as part of a three-run second inning to put LC up 3-1. Leading 4-3, the Panthers broke the game open with a five-run sixth inning to build a 9-3 lead. Nick Fink walked and Hollon was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to force in two runs. Judd Moore drove in a run with a single, then Mixon capped the inning with a two-run base hit. Austin Jones cleared the bases with a three-run double in the ninth for the 12-5 final margin.

The Panthers close out tournament play Sunday against Berry. The Vikings beat LC 7-1 earlier in the week.
