Baseball: Panthers open USA South schedule against Huntingdon

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - LaGrange opened its USA South schedule Friday against Huntingdon at Posey Field.

Huntingdon (8-3, 4-0 USA South) edged the Panthers (2-6, 0-1 USA South) 6-4 in the first game of a three-game weekend series. The two teams play Saturday at 3 p.m. EST.

The Panthers finished the game with six hits. Casey Bell and Keith Sims had two hits each to lead the team.

Huntingdon took a 2-0 lead in the first inning off Panther starter Zach Tatham (1-1). The Panthers answered in the top of the fourth.

The Panthers got back-to-back hits from Sims and Cain Sauls to start the inning. Jake Hipple reached on an error putting down a sacrifice bunt as Sims came around to score. Bell followed with an RBI single to drive in Sauls.

Hipple scored the third run of the inning as Kyle Nerbonne reached on another Hawk error. Bell later scored on Adam Terrinoni's sacrifice fly to put the Panthers up 4-2.

The Hawks came back in their half of the fourth with four runs. Tatham surrendered back-to-back two out hits, driving in all four runs of the inning as the Hawks took a 6-4 lead.

Daniel Garrett got the final out of the fourth, then threw two scoreless innings, allowing two hits. Patrick Riley also blanked the Hawks for two innings, not giving up a hit and striking out one.
