Baseball: Miller, Scherer named to GSAC all-conference team

Senior first baseman David Miller and junior pitcher Doug Scherer were named to the Great South Athletic Conference All-Conference team announced by the conference office.

Miller was selected to the all-conference team for the second straight year and also earned GSAC All-Academic honors for the third straight year. He batted .322 with a home run and a team-leading 24 RBIs. Miller was the only Panther to play in and start all 44 games this season.

Scherer, who also earned all-academic honors was 6-5 with a 3.54 ERA for the Panthers this season. He appeared in 11 games with nine starts and had three complete games. Scherer led the team with 68-2/3 innings pitched, struck out 47 and opponents batted .237 against him.

Miller and Scherer were part of a school record 15 players earning all-academic honors for having a 3.25 GPA or higher. Joining them were Brandon Espinosa, Anthony Iannetta, Henry Jacobs, Brent Kinsey, Miles Lee, Cody Muren, Kyle Nerbonne, Linwood Roberds, Josh Shiver, Kenneth Strack, Isaiah Whitfield, Mason Webster and Robby Williams.
