Panthers have 12 receive GSAC baseball awards

Senior outfielder Eric Heath, junior third baseman Robbie Shelton and sophomore first baseman David Miller were selected to the GSAC All-Conference team.

Shelton led the Panthers in 10 team individual categories and was in the top five in eight GSAC individual categories. Shelton led the team with a .411 batting average, 11 home runs and 52 RBIs. He also led the team with 18 multiple hit games and 17 multiple RBI games.

Miller was second on the team with a .379 batting average and 37 RBIs. He was in the top five in 15 team individual categories. Miller led the team with five sacrifice flies and led the team defensively with 173 putouts. He had a team-best 17-game hitting streak during the season.

Heath earned his second straight all-conference selection. He batted .304 with a home run and 34 RBIs. Heath was in the top five in 16 team individual categories. Defensively, he led the Panther outfielders with 10 assists and committed only two errors.

James Connell, Derek Hooper, Brent Kinsey, Doug Scherer and Neal Smith were named to the GSAC All-Freshman team.

Connell led the team's pitching staff with four saves. He had a 4-1 record and a 3.33 earned run average. Hooper batted .353 with two home runs and 26 RBIs. He led the team with 19 stolen bases.

Kinsey batted .327 with a home run and 23 RBIs. Scherer was 2-2 in 10 appearances and had a 3.60 earned run average. Smith led the team with five wins and strikeouts with 45. He was 5-3 with a 5.73 earned run average.

Heath and Miller were joined by senior Dale Feldman and sophomore Jordan Martinec on the GSAC All-Academic team. Heath and Feldman earned the honor for the second straight year.
