Mary Washington downs Panthers at NCAA regional

Parker Talbert (3-0) pitched a complete game for Mary Washington (28-12). Talbert scattered seven hits, did not walk a batter and struck out four.

Trevor Tullock (2-2) took the loss for the Panthers. Tullock pitched into the sixth inning, allowing four earned runs. He gave up six hits, walked five and struck out two.

Jonathan Love relieved Tullock. He gave up two runs in 1-1/3 innings. James Yancy and Jacob Mauldin closed out the game with 2-2/3 innings of scoreless relief.

Mary Washington took a 2-0 lead in the third inning. The Panthers came back in their half of the third to tie the game.

Amauri Smith started the rally with a one-out double down the left field line. Derek Hooper followed with a single through the left side to drive in Smith. Hooper moved up on Eric Heath's single and then stole third. Robbie Shelton's deep fly out to center brought in Hooper to tie the game 2-2.

The Eagles took the lead back with a run in the fourth inning. They added another run in the sixth and two more runs in the seventh to go up 6-2.

Heath had two of the Panthers' seven hits. Smith's double was the only extra base hit for the Panthers.

The Panthers did not commit an error in the game. Shortstop Derek Hooper had 10 assists in the game. Catcher Luis Perez threw out three base runners trying to steal.
