Panthers open GSAC tournament play Friday

The regular season title was the first for the Panthers since 2005. The Panthers will face fourth-seeded Huntingdon College (27-12, 4-5 GSAC) in the tournament's first game at 3 p.m. Huntingdon won the regular season series 2-1 over the Panthers.

The Panthers have been the GSAC tournament runner-ups two of the past three seasons. The Panthers' last GSAC tournament title came in 2006, when the Panthers defeated Piedmont at Loudermilk Field 12-11 on a walk-off home run by Stephen Cheney. The Panthers also won a GSAC tournament title at Piedmont in 2003.

Last season, the Panthers went 1-2 in the tournament held at Huntingdon College's Posey Field. The Panthers lost their tournament opener 12-11 to Huntingdon. They eliminated Piedmont 7-5 on Ben Hudson's two-run walk-off home run. Huntingdon eliminated the Panthers with a 6-5 season-ending loss.
